Weak airflow is a distinct complaint: the outdoor unit may sound and run normally while barely any air reaches the rooms. Five causes account for nearly every case:
- A clogged filter starves the whole system of airflow, the most common and cheapest cause to fix.
- Blocked or closed return grilles cut off the air the system needs to pull back in, the same way a dirty filter does.
- Leaking or disconnected ductwork lets cooled air escape into the attic before it reaches the vent.
- A frozen evaporator coil blocks airflow once ice builds up across its surface.
